Your child is our priority.

At Guardians UK we care for each child as if they were our own. We act as a bridge between the school and the parent; communicating with both, caring for the child and making practical arrangements, to enable the child to thrive.

We spend time getting to know your child, meeting up with them, staying in contact with them and responding quickly to their needs and your requests.

Guardians UK always acts professionally and fosters genuine friendships with people in our care.

Good boarding schools and colleges in the UK insist that all international students have a guardian. A guardian is an adult, based in the UK, who acts independently of the school, caring for the student’s welfare, practical needs and academic progression.

Guardians UK provides a quality service to parents, students and schools by creating a positive rapport with the students, offering excellent pastoral care, pairing them up with welcoming host families, organising their airport transfers, supporting them if they remain in the UK during the holidays and communicating openly and frequently with parents.

Our ultimate goal is to keep your child safe and secure whilst in the UK. All our staff are trained in safeguarding and know how to respond to any concerns or complaints, always putting the child’s needs at the centre of our plans.

For more details please see our Student Handbook and Parent Handbook.

Our Team

Based in the Guardians UK office in Taunton are Helen, Jakki & Jennie whilst Yuliia now works remotely from her home in Ukraine. We work closely together to best support the child and are often out and about visiting the young people in their schools. Guardians UK has a large network of host families and drivers with whom we have created fantastic relationships. We all share the same aim; to care for each child as if they were our own.

Schools We Work With

Guardians UK looks after students in a number of schools across the south of England and Wales. We have established close links with key staff in many of these, which helps us to best support each student, keep an open dialogue and know the best time to visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding the role of a guardian and choosing the right guardian for your child is challenging so we hope the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions will help you. Do get in contact if you would like to know more about how we make your child our priority – we are always happy to chat.

WHO IS MY CHILD’S GUARDIAN?2023-05-22T14:15:30+00:00

Guardians UK will allocate one of our Regional Guardians to be your child’s guardian. The guardian will liaise with parents, agents, schools, host families and your child on your behalf.

WHO WILL MEET MY CHILD AT THE AIRPORT?2023-05-22T14:15:54+00:00

We have a team of Guardians UK drivers for airport collections, and we are able to offer unaccompanied minors a more personal service. We also use local taxi companies for those students who are comfortable with this. (All drivers are police checked.)

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD FALLS ILL?2023-05-22T14:30:19+00:00

If your child falls ill at school, they seek advice from their school health centre. If your child falls ill whilst staying with a host family, the family would contact their own doctor and arrange for your child to be seen as an emergency patient. If necessary they can also take your child to the local hospital. As guardians, we will ensure that we always give your child the best possible care.

WHO MONITORS MY CHILD’S ACADEMIC PROGRESS?2023-05-22T14:30:50+00:00

Academic progress is monitored by school – your child’s teachers are responsible. On a regular basis you will receive reports and assessment marks. We can attend Parents Evenings if you request us to and speak with teachers. If there are any areas where you have concerns we are happy to contact school staff at any time during the term on your behalf.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE YOUR HOST FAMILIES?2023-05-22T14:31:48+00:00

We interview all host families when they first contact us. If we feel they will be suitable we visit them in their homes, check they meet our criteria and then arrange for them to be police checked. Once they start to host our students we keep in contact with them and visit on a regular basis.

CAN I CHOOSE MY CHILD’S HOST FAMILY?2023-05-22T14:32:22+00:00

We will send you host family profiles with photographs of the host family, their house, and information about their interests. From this you can see who might be a good fit for your child. We work very closely with families and students to ensure that we match your child up with a family that would suit them.

CAN MY CHILD STAY WITH RELATIVES OR FRIENDS INSTEAD OF A HOST FAMILY?2023-05-22T14:33:27+00:00

Your child can stay with relatives or friends as long as there is an adult over the age of 25 in the house. They are not allowed to stay with a sibling or friends in student accommodation.

WILL THEY HAVE TO SHARE A ROOM?2023-05-22T14:34:05+00:00

We prefer that students have their own room. However, some students do like to share if they go to a host family with a friend or sibling, but this would be their choice.

HOW OFTEN WILL THEY STAY WITH A HOST FAMILY?2023-05-22T14:34:36+00:00

Your child can stay with a host family for exeat weekends and half term holidays if they are not going home. Some students also stay for the longer holidays if they are not returning to their home country.

CAN MY CHILD CHANGE HOST FAMILY IF THEY ARE NOT HAPPY?2023-05-22T14:35:40+00:00

If your child goes to a host family and is not happy there or simply wants to stay in a different area that is not a problem. A number of our students change host families on a regular basis to experience different parts of the UK and to meet new people.

CAN MY CHILD STAY IN A HOTEL UNACCOMPANIED?2023-05-22T14:36:26+00:00

Schools do not usually permit their students to stay in hotels without an adult present. We uphold this rule.

HOW OFTEN WILL MY CHILD BE VISITED?2023-05-22T14:37:15+00:00

Your child will be visited regularly, but the exact nature of these visits depends on the package that your child is signed up to. If your child needs to see their guardian for any reason we can arrange to go and visit them.
